The Crowne Plaza The City hotel had two chillers past life expectancy and one with total failure.
Nationwide were contracted to design, supply and replace the chillers and pumps with new energy efficient, low noise models as part of a full turnkey project with a 5 year warranty.
The contract involved full contract crane lifts, full system flushing, chemical cleaning and dosing of the chilled water and LTHW circuits, replacement of three off VSD pumps, modification to 6” pipe work, electrical works, control works and chiller replacement.
Two off 580kw, twin circuit, screw compressor Daikin chillers were selected for the project to allow full redundancy, large energy savings and low noise capability for potential future works within the hotel. New VSD Lowara pumps were selected for further savings.
The failed chiller was the first to be replaced and commissioned within 10 hours of disconnection. The chiller was left to run on the full hotel load successfully for one week before the second chiller was replaced following the same process.
Nationwide undertook the first phase of the chiller replacement programme last weekend and I have to say everything went like clockwork and the new chiller was up and running by Sunday evening. We had a full hotel and there were no reports of problems. I’m extremely impressed with the performance of the team and looking forward to much of the same this weekend when the second phase is to take place.
